Computational Analysis of Gene Expression Links Between Rheumatoid Arthritis and Parkinson's Disease
Project type
Computational Biology Research
Date
June 2024
Location
Ann Arbor, Michigan
During an intensive computational biology bootcamp, I conducted research exploring the potential molecular connections between two seemingly distinct diseases. Using advanced bioinformatics tools, I analyzed gene expression data from Parkinson's Disease patients to investigate its relationship with Rheumatoid Arthritis, demonstrating how computational approaches can uncover hidden connections in medical research.
The project involved:
-Analysis of the GSE202665 dataset from Saarland University
-Implementation of multiple visualization techniques (volcano plots, box plots, UMAP)
-Creation of String Maps and KEGG pathway analyses
-Investigation of specific inflammatory and immune response genes
-Development of a hypothesis linking the two conditions
