Hands-On Genomic Analysis: From Ethics to Personal DNA Exploration
Project type
Computational Biology- Gene Sequencing
Date
July 2024
Location
Ann Arbor, Michigan
Through the miRcore 'Sequencing Your Genome Camp' program, I engaged in an intensive three-week exploration of personal genomics, combining ethical considerations, practical laboratory work, and computational analysis. This unique experience allowed me to sequence and analyze my own genome using professional-grade tools and high-performance computing resources.
The project encompassed:
-Learning ethical implications of genomic data ownership and privacy
-Hands-on DNA extraction and whole exome sequencing
-Access to University of Michigan's Great Lakes Slurm computing cluster
-Detailed analysis of specific genes (ABO and ABCC11) and their variants
-Research connecting genetic variants to physical traits
